On March 9, 2017, we unveiled The Mansion: A Community Center at Walnut St. as our new center-point for the Neighborhood Heritage and Sustainability Project. In partnership with Broome County HEARS and the United Way, we opened our doors for a free meal and gave community members the chance to look over all we have gathered over the past two years. On October 26, 2016 the Neighborhood Heritage and Sustainability Project hosted (along with Binghamton University’s student affairs office, Safe Streets, Binghamton City School District, Horizons Federal Credit Union, Sam’s Club, and J & K Plumbing and Heating) the Fall Festival at Walnut Street Park for children from the neighborhood and across the city. Autumn being the season of mellow fruitfulness – the event was full of food, pumpkin decorating, and games. We partnered with the United Way of Broome County and FreshCycles to bring a Bicycle Repair Clinic to Walnut Street Park. FreshCycles repaired about 20 bikes in the park and we raffled off 10 bikes donated by employees of J&K Plumbing & Heating and rehabbed by FreshCycles. Approximately 30 people participated. On October 15, 2015 the Neighborhood Heritage and Sustainability project co-sponsored (along with Safe Streets, Binghamton PTA Council, Binghamton City School District, and J & K Plumbing and Heating) a fall festival at Walnut Street Park for children from the neighborhood and across the city. Students from Binghamton University organized events while those from Binghamton High School provided the music.
